pH Matter Awarded Funding for its Novel Direct Alcohol Fuel Cell
pH Matter, LLC is pleased to announce that the company has received a Phase II SBIR award from the U.S. Air Force to develop a portable fuel cell for the Air Force’s Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) equipment. The portable 25-Watt power source will enable the Air Force to use the equipment for extended time periods and in areas where electricity may not be readily available. The power source is based on a patent pending direct alcohol fuel cell that is enabled by pH Matter’s proprietary electrodes and multi-functional catalyst technology. With this technology, a number of liquid alcohol fuels can be converted directly to electricity. As the President of the company, Dr. Paul Matter, explains, “we are excited to have this opportunity to demonstrate our multifunctional catalyst technology that will solve a significant issue for the Air Force, and to expand the limits of what is possible for fuel cells in terms of energy density and fuel availability”. After demonstration of the technology for Air Force NDI equipment, the company will adapt the system design for a number of commercial portable electronics applications.
